Use the Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of local genealogical materials including family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.

The library's collection includes the following newspapers on microfilm:  Le Mars Weekly Sentinel, Le Mars Globe Post, Hinton Progress, Merrill Record and the Akron Register Tribune dating back to the late 1800's/early 1900's as well as census records. The Le Mars and Akron papers can all be accessed online as well at the library's website. Use Plymouthcounty as your login and archive as a password.

In addition, if you are hunting for a specific family or portion of genealogy you can see if those records are available at our catalog as they are all archived there.

Family histories are housed in a filing cabinet and many reference materials are located in the reference section. We can guide you to the genealogy section and answer simple questions, but if you should need assistance with family searches, you may wish to contact the N.W. Iowa Genealogical Society at  http://genealogynwia.homestead.com/gen.html
